A play area in the pool can be great for family fun, in such an area family and friends can play water games,volleyball,basketball or other games For all to have fun it is important that all family members can reach the pool floor. Usually play areas in swimming pools are between 1 meter to 1.25 meters. Some families choose to have two levels in the play area, this is normally the case if there is a significant height difference between the family members. Please refer to our pool depth guide.

Lap pools are often 25 meters long, the depth is minimum 1 meter, Atlas Blue highly recommend that you consider the users height before deciding the depth. As an alternative to a lap pool many people choose to build a smaller pool and include a counter current system which will allow you to swim continuously against a current.

In a lounge area your family and guests can relax either in the ultra shallow water or in submerged lounge chairs, you also have the option of installing tables and with removable shade you can make the lounge area a pleasant place to cool off even in the summer heat. The water depth is normally between 20-30cm which also makes it a lovely place for the smallest toddlers to play.

The Kids areas are normally made for the older toddlers and small kids, the water depth is usually around 50 cm which will be a pleasant depth for toddlers and kids who are 80-100 cm tall.

Regardless of the depth of the pool seats along the edge make a perfect feature for relaxing in the water on a hot summer day, The seat depth is normally around 50 cm. It is important that you plan the seat depth in accordance to the user’s height. The seats can also be combined with a massage system.

Lower Construction Cost: This is the most significant advantage. It requires less complex plumbing, no balance tank, and no perimeter guttering.
Aesthetic "Waterline": The gap between the water and the coping stone can make the pool feel deeper and more "boxed in." You will also get a visible line of scale or sunscreen deposits on the tiles at the water level that requires scrubbing.
Simpler Maintenance: With fewer moving parts and no underground balance tank to clean.
Less Efficient Surface Cleaning: Debris (leaves, bugs) must float into the specific skimmer openings. If the wind blows the wrong way, debris can get stuck in "dead zones" on the surface.
Compact Installation: You do not need to account for a balance tank.
Water Circulation: Circulation is generally less uniform than in overflow pools, which can sometimes lead to uneven chemical distribution.
Quieter Operation: Because the water is contained within the walls, you generally don't hear the sound of water cascading into a gutter.
The "Mirror" Effect: The water surface looks like a sheet of glass flush with your terrace. This makes the pool appear larger and seamlessly integrated into the landscape.
Higher cost: You are paying for the overflow channel grating, the hidden balance tank (which must hold ~10% of the pool's volume), and more complex waterproofing. This often adds 20% to 50% to the project cost.
Superior Filtration: Because water spills over the entire perimeter, the surface is cleaned much faster. Leaves and insects are removed almost instantly before they sink.
Maintenance: The overflow channels (gutters) can collect debris and need regular cleaning. The balance tank also requires periodic inspection and cleaning.
No Scum Line: Since the water level is constant at the top, you never get that dirty "bath-tub ring" or tide mark on the pool walls.
Sound: Depending on the design of the gutter, the water falling into the channel can create a trickling or gurgling sound.
Swimming Comfort: You don't have backwash waves bouncing off the walls while you swim. The water that hits the wall simply flows over it, resulting in a much calmer swimming surface.
